01
Concept
The goal was to madeGhost of Tsushima’s cinematic world into a title sequence that feels both meditative and heroic.
The goal was to craft a reveal that captures the duality of the samurai spirit — serenity and violence, tradition and motion — through visual rhythm and atmosphere.
Focused on restraint: silence, emptiness, and gradual movement leading to a powerful emergence of the title.
Evoke the emotional weight of honor and memory before the film even begins.

02
Build
Visual Approach: Entirely 2D-based, combining hand-drawn frame animation in Clip Studio Paint with compositing and timing in After Effects.
Textures and motion were layered to mimic the unpredictability of real brush ink — allowing imperfections to become part of the visual identity.
Tone: Quiet, meditative, and cinematic — balancing traditional brushwork aesthetics with the pacing of a modern film intro.

Showcase
The sequence begins in silence as a samurai slowly raises his sword. With each motion, white light bleeds across the frame — gradually revealing the Ghost of Tsushima title. The word “Ghost” carries a distinct ethereal effect, hinting at the spirit and solitude at the core of the story.
As the sword strikes downward, the title splits vertically — a symbolic cut between life and death, honor and revenge. The red-and-black palette draws inspiration from Akira Kurosawa’s films, known for their stark emotional contrasts and disciplined composition. The same visual philosophy also shapes the Ghost of Tsushima game, grounding the reveal in a shared cinematic heritage.
This moment captures both restraint and violence — a quiet reverence before impact — turning the title itself into an extension of the samurai’s blade.
